Not only do we have what the Targaryen family tree looked like at the start of Season 1, but also we've got the update to keep things straight after the Season 1, episode 6 time jump. Rhaenyra is Viserys and Aemma's daughter and their only surviving child, as well as Daemon's niece. In episode 1, Viserys decides to make her his heir to the Iron Throne, naming her Princess of Dragonstone. Rhaenyra has been a dragonrider since she was a child and her dragon is named Syrax – we see the two together when they land on Dragonstone to confront Daemon in episode 2. They have three children together, although their daughter Visenya Targaryen is stillborn. We only meet her briefly in Episode 6, where she makes a prophetic-sounding observation while holding a little bug.

Despite once being considered as a potential bride for King Viserys, Laena went on to marry his younger brother, Prince Daemon. The first season ends with Corlys backing Rhaenyra's claim to the Iron Throne with his Velaryon navy and control of the shipping lanes through the Stepstones - which he now controls. Following King Viserys' second marriage to Lady Alicent Hightower, the realm welcomes the first son of the monarch in the form of Prince Aegon. Upon his mother's ascension to the role of Queen, Jacaerys becomes the disputed heir to the throne and carries the title Prince of Dragonstone. Together, the pair have had two children by the time of episode 8 and Rhaenyra is pregnant with a third.
American Horror Story Connections Between Seasons
After the (ahem) tragic death of his first wife Rhea Royce, Daemon Targaryen married Laena Velaryon, the beautiful daughter of his first cousin Rhaenys. Due to Daemon’s um, misbehavior at court, they were forced into exile in Pentos, where they live with their twin daughters and fly around on their cool dragons Caraxes and Vhagar. House of the Dragon turns back the clock to the weird old days of Targaryen rule — more specifically, the period before and during a civil war called the Dance of the Dragons. Needless to say, there are a lot more Targaryens around in this time than there were during Thrones, and remembering who’s related to who is a lot harder in this show.

In one corner, Rhaenyra Targaryen had been named rightful heir by her father. On the other side, Aegon Targaryen II had been erroneously elevated to king after his wife, Alicent Hightower, mistakenly interpreted King Viserys’ deathbed ramblings. We’ll let you know which characters and houses to keep an eye on as the new prequel unfurls, analyze key scenes, offer context on a complicated fictional universe and speak to the talent behind the show about how it all came together. The only thing we can’t promise is that your favorites will make it to the end of the season.
Prince Jacaerys Velaryon (Leo Hart, then Harry Collett)
The land was granted in 1784 by King Carlos III to Juan Jose Dominguez, a retired Spanish soldier who came to California with the Portola expedition and later with Father Junipero Serra. The original land grant encompassed 75,000 acres, including the entire Los Angeles harbor. The land has passed through successive generations and remains in the Dominguez family. Today, the descendants operate the Watson Land Company and the Carson Estates Company on the original Rancho land.
Though she does not wish to marry, she eventually does wed Laenor Velaryon in order to create a strong alliance that will help her capture the throne. However, when the parentage of Rhaenyra’s sons comes into question, Alicent tries to undermine her old friend’s claim to be queen. In order to strengthen her claim to the throne, Rhaenyra plots to marry her uncle Daemon.

Things don’t end well for Rhaenyra and Harwin, unfortunately — the situation is just too unstable for Rhaenyra to keep a lover on the side while the line of succession is in dispute, and the king sends Harwin into exile. Rhaenyra responds by secretly marrying her uncle Daemon after Laenor Valeryon’s death — which infuriates her father. Here’s a rundown of the dragons you can expect to see in House of the Dragon. Sadly, Balerion, the mighty dragon ridden by Aegon the Conqueror, likely won’t be appearing unless there are flashbacks to Viserys’s youth, as he died during Jaehaerys I’s reign. Rhaena Targaryen (Eva Ossai-Gerning, and then Phoebe Campbell) is the younger sister of Baela.
With the family tree spanning across 16 generations, we can’t explore every family member, but one that started it all was King Aegon I Targaryen. Also known as Aegon the Conqueror, as explained in our GoT timeline, he was the first to unite and conquer the kingdoms of Westeros with his three dragons. Rhaenyra’s marriage to Laenor Velaryon was sort of a given, considering her unique status as a princess and future ruling queen.
They have one daughter, Rhaenyra, and hope to have a son, mainly because in the absence of a son the throne might pass to Viserys’ brother Daemon. Baelon had two sons with his sister Alyssa and became the new heir after his brother Aemon died. Then he died, leaving Jaehaerys and Alysanne with exactly zero eligible sons to inherit the throne directly. Played by Eve Best, Rhaenys is married to Lord Corlys Velaryon, a member of King Viserys' Small Council.
Due to King Viserys's lack of male children, Prince Daemon occupies the position as the heir to the Iron Throne, despite being considered the 'Rogue Prince'. In the finale of the first season, Daemon crowns Rhaenyra with her father's crown and she becomes the disputed ruler of the Seven Kingdoms. Viserys ruled over the realm at a time of relative peace and prosperity and was married to Queen Aemma Arryn, who is played by Sian Brooke in the series.
We are first introduced to Otto Hightower as King Viserys’ Hand, but he’s actually been in the role longer than you think. He was also Hand to King Jaehaerys I Targaryen, and at one point even ruled the Seven Kingdoms as Hand. At first, Rhaenys plays a relatively minor role in the series, but her role in castle politics has recently come to show. When Aegon is wrongfully crowned King, she proves her power and strong alliance with Rhaenyra by crashing his coronation atop the dragon Meleys. He is the commander of the City Watch in King’s Landing, and one of a few characters who think they are in the mix to succeed Viserys.
King Aerys || Targaryen, also called The Mad King, was the father of Queen Daenerys. After that, the Targaryen dynasty's reign on the Iron Throne came to an end. Reviewing the Rhaegar Targaryen family tree, you will see that Aerys II was the father of Rhaegar Targaryen, the firstborn son, and the family's pride and joy. However, Game of Thrones would not be the same without him ravishing the incorrect person. King Aerys, who got married to his sister Rhaella, at first seemed to be a good king who looked out for his people and the kingdom. But unfortunately, he eventually lost his mind due to a string of tragic occurrences, including political challenges, miscarriages, and stillbirths.
